Year 4 Homework
Date set: 20.4.18
Date Due in: 27.4.18
Reading (every day)
Please write in your reading diary
when you have read. You will have been allocated a Bug Club book to read at
home, which will be different to the one that you are reading in school. Check
with your teacher if you are not sure which one is which. Don’t forget to
answer the ‘bugs’- look out for them on each page! Please don’t “close” the
book until all the bugs have been answered.
Maths (20mins):
Our topic this week is division.
Maths work will be posted on Mathletics. If you have any problems accessing
this work, please speak to the teacher for a paper copy. Please also practise
your times tables and associated division facts (e.g. 7x6=42, 6x7=42 42 ÷7=6,
42÷6=7)
Literacy (20 mins):
Next week we will be reading A
Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare.
We will be looking at some of
Shakespeare’s language in class and discussed some of the words that he
invented, such as
honorificabilitudinitatibus.
For your homework this week, we would
like you to invent three words of your own, with definitions.
For example:
·
You
could merge two or more existing words into a new word. For example the word
chortle, came from chuckle and snort- a snorting laugh.
·
If
you know some words from another language you could combine them with English
words to create a new word.
·
If
you have a younger brother or sister, you might want to listen to their
babbling and see if you can create a word from the noises they make.
·
You
could create an onomatopoeia by listening to sounds around you.
·
You
could add prefixes or suffixes onto existing words. For example you could say zebrification-the
process of becoming a zebra.
Write your words and definitions on
your class blog. Have fun!
Spellings (20mins): should be practised for a short time each day, using
the words given in sentences.
You need to:
• look at each word
• say the word
• copy the word in first space
• cover the words and try to write it
from memory
• check to see if they are right
This week we are turning nouns into
verbs by adding tion. Look to see how the root word changes when tion is added.
Make sure you understand which word is the noun and which is the verb.
